Object type: WIRE
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A piece of gold wire made from four strands twisted. The wire was made from 4 smaller wires (diameter c. 2.4 mm) twisted together in a clockwise spiral giving an overall diameter for the twisted wire of 5 mm. The wire piece weighs 7.24g and is 20mm long (unstraightened). The fragment appears to have been cut from a larger piece of wire at one end, although the other end appears to be a break. Analysis shows these wires are made of over 80% gold.

Fragment of gold sheet from an unidentified object. The sheet is folded forming a front and back-plate the edges of which are torn, except for the lower edge of the back-plate which appears neatly cut, and the straight folded edge. The front-plate is decorated with a row of stamped dots above a row of repoussé pellets parallel with the folded edge, the lower edge possibly torn along a third row of pellets or dots. Surviving dimensions 12 x 7mm. Weight 0.4g. Although ancient (over 300 years old) the decoration would be consistent with a Bronze Age, Roman or Early Medieval date, and…

Description: Crumpled and perhaps incomplete piece of gold sheet. It appears roughly circular in shape, but has one original straight side with a slightly burred thickened edge. This edge was c. 23mm long but is now bent about halfway along, with one half irregularly folded back on itself. The disc has a straight, slightly raised repoussé band parallel to the straight side and probably at the object's widest point; the band is about 3.5mm wide. Between this band and the straight edge are four rounded repoussé bosses which look like deliberate decoration, and seem too regular to be c…
