A Merovingian tremissis of hitherto unknown type with a fragment of either another tremissis or decorated gold sheet adhering to it. The obverse depicts a diademed bust facing right with the retrograde legend BASOI FIT BH, the reverse probably a long-cross on globe, flanked by the letters AB (B retrograde) and the legend, VNE[...]S[..]X[..]S. Gold pendant. Sub-triangular, hollow, originally rectangular sectioned but now concave on both faces. The front and back plate and double ribbed suspension loop are formed from the same piece of metal sheet folded over, with a separate double ribbed repoussé sheet forming the sides, the ends of which join under the loop. An incomplete Late Anglo-Saxon gold finger ring. The back-plate of the bezel and hoop are constructed from a single piece of gold sheet, expanding to form triangular shoulders before the circular bezel. The hoop is broken at the edge of the bezel on one side, and distorted; perhaps half survives. Early Saxon gold composite spangles or pendant: a square sheet plate is set lozenge-wise and pierced for suspension at one corner, the top of the perforation is almost worn through. Circular sheet of gold with a projection to one side decorated with four longitudinal grooves. Opposite the projection the sheet appears to have punchmarks or crimping around part of the circumference. There are quite a few accidental indentations which have all been made from the undecorated face, leaving bumps on the decorated face. I suspect that this object may be the back plate from a cabochon pendant, perhaps at an early stage of manufacture or perhaps never made well and later damaged. A 7th-century early-medieval pale gold shilling (thrymsa) of Constantine or Oath-taking type (Sutherland type II.ii; North 17), East Anglian and dating c. 650-675. The reverse (illustrated here the wrong way up) shows an abstract derivative of a Roman trophy. A 6th century gold bracteate, found whilst searching with a metal-detector as part of an archaeological investigation. The bracteate is made of gold. The central design is carried out in well-executed pressblech technique, and is of an animal in Style I, a basic ribbon-shaped animal with the eye close to the loop, but with limbs nearly unidentifiable, around a central 'dimple' (seen on some other bracteates). Description: Early Anglo-Saxon biconical gold bead made from a single spiral of plain unbeaded wire which measures c. 0.4-0.5mm in diameter. The wire is the only component of the the bead - there is no internal backplate - and the bead appears to have been heated, perhaps in the presence of solder, to slightly fuse the turns of the spiral.
