Gold ribbon. Penannular fragment of gold foil or thin sheet with a border along its edges and at one end, and decorated with three densely billeted longitudinal ribs in relief. Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
The ring has a rounded, lentoid bezel drawn into wires at each end, which would originally have been twisted together, but they have come apart and been bent out of shape, probably as the result of agricultural activity; length (opened up), 47mm; length of bezel, 25mm; weight 3.8 grams.
The bezel is decorated with irregular, dense punchwork, which has been partly obscured by abrasion to one side, while in the soil. There appears to be an outer border of ovoid shapes round a ring of triangles with convex bases, in turn enclosing random triangles and hourglass shapes.

Gold finger ring. Narrow cast D section stirrup-shaped band expanding towards a sub-rectangular box bezel retaining a smooth and rounded oval transparent dark blue stone. The shoulder of the ring on one side bears a series of incised chevrons with tiny crescentic stamps of length 0.6mm crowded between them; the other shoulder bears similarly incised cross-hatch whose interstices are filled by tiny round stamps of diameter 0.6mm. These schemes, probably varied only by differential wear, give out as the band approaches its narrowest width, which continues for about one third of its circ…

Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL

Workflow stage: Published
A gold bracteate dating to the 6th or 7th century AD.
A gold uniface pendant, imitating a Byzantine or sub-Byzantine gold solidus, probably inspired by a solidus of Anastasius (491-518). The pseudo-inscription reads DNΛTTΛN_N_T┤T┌ΛNΛNCC (all Ns reversed). This is not a literate inscription but can most plausibly be derived from a literate inscription of Anastasius (DN ANASTASIVS PP AVG), although it may simply be copying some of the more common letter forms. However, derivation from Anastasius would also be consistent with the fact that his coins are among the more common…

Description: Early Anglo-Saxon gold and garnet cloisonné panel, perhaps from a larger composite object. The panel is trapezoidal, and has a foundation of a thin gold backplate with thin vertical strips, probably soldered on, forming the walls. The ends of the strip overlap in the centre of the narrower end, and here are bent a little over the cloisonné panels, which may have helped to hold the entire object together; in other places the side strips have sprung away from the cloisonné panels. The backplate is a little longer at the narrower end and is bent up, partly covering the ov…

Gold
Stater. Probably North East Coast Reduced Weight stater of the Corieltauvi, Corieltauvian B, as per Van Arsdell 804-1. Van Arsdell dates this to 55-45 BC; this equates to Haselgrove Period 2 phases 5-6, or Rudd and Cottam's ABC phases 5-6. This coin is virtually in mint condition, [just] exceeding the heaviest weight Van Arsdell suggests for the type, and with all fine detail unworn, and agreeing exactly with his detailed description.
