A possible fragment of a gold earring probably of Roman date (AD 43-300). The object is composed of the hook portion of an earring, the object is circular in cross section and U shaped in plan. Both ends taper to points. One end would have would have affixed to a decorative element, now missing. An incomplete gold Ear ring of Roman date (AD 100-300). The object is composed of a recurves wire hook which is circular in section. The wire broadens towards the attachment point in the centre of the back of the objects recessed aperture. The main portion of the object is composed of a tear drop shaped plate with a deep ovate recess at it's the centre. This would have held a gem which is now missing. Gold earring. Identified by Lindsay Allason-Jones as a 2nd Century Roman ear ring of probable Eastern Mediterranean provenance. Richard Hobbs (Romano-British Curator at teh British Musuem) has prepared the following report: Gold ear-ring, consisting of a large hoop, circular in section which slightly swells from the terminals.
