An imported Iron Age gold quarter stater from Gaul, probably from the Ardenne region and derived from the gold staters issued in the name of Philip II of Macedon, dating to the c.late-3rd to 2nd centuries BC. Obverse: Bare-headed bust right. Reverse: Unclear charioteer left, rosette(?) below. This is probably as Sills' Hesperange Type, cf. Sills, 2003: p. 45, nos. 163-168; DT nos. 36-37. A worn cast gold inscribed finger-ring or 'posie or posy' dating to the 17th century. Description: The hoop is circular in plan, D-shaped. The inscription, which runs around the internal circumferences, is in lower case and reads '__In begin so let us end' it is followed by the makers mark 'WG'. A complete but slightly squashed wound wire or 'plaited' gold finger ring of Late Saxon date c. AD 900-1100. Description: The ring is formed of three thick lengths of circular-sectioned gold wire, which have been plaited to form the bezel and shoulders. The strands have then been beaten together at their lower edge as can be seen in detail where they join to form a rectangular sectioned base to the hoop.
