A complete gold or gold plated copper alloy pennanular ring of Late Bronze Age date (1150-750 BC). Description: The object is oval in plan broadly sub-circular to D-shaped in cross-section with the outside edge being more rounded than the straighter inside edge.The terminals are slightly flared with visible rims and have irregular facets which suggest they have been hammered. A, complete gold Late Bronze Age penannular ring possibly gold plated with a copper alloy core, dating to the period 1150-750 BC. Description: The penannular ring appears to have a number of regularly spaced shallow indentation possibly showing it was wrapped in strips of gold or had additional elements/decoration added. A Late Bronze Age gold plated penannular ring or {ring money} of oval section. Date {c.1150-800 BC}. The ring has flat terminals with unevern surfaces. A similar penannular ring from Rowlands Castle, Hampshire, was reported through the Treasure Act, although this one has decorative striping (Treasure Annual Report 2005/6, 21; ref. 22/2005 T358). The ring is 14.2mm wide, 5.1mm thick and weighs 4.60 grams. Penannular ring having narrow stripes of alternately yellow and whiter gold. The surface is rather worn except for the interior of the hoop where the striping is protected. The hoop tapers to flat terminals. When tested the ring was found to be of the type consisting of a gold covering over a non-precious metal core (see report). Maximum external diameter 16mm; weight 9.23 grams.

Composite ring, penannular, comprising three slender solid gold rods of roughly circular cross-section; these have been cut at the ends (probably with a chisel) and fused together. Diameter 14x14.5mm; thickness of rods 2mm; breadth 6.5mm; width of gap 2mm; weight 5.07 grams. Rings of this type date to circa 1300-1100 BC.

Penannular gold ring comprising a gold covering over a base metal core; this is usually a copper alloy. The piece has fairly fine stripes, probably of yellow and paler gold, but this decorative effect is extremely worn and heavily stained red-brown. The central area and gap are plugged with corrosion products which also form an excrescence on one side of the gap. External diameter 20x18mm; internal diameter about 7mm; width of gap about 2mm; breadth 7mm; weight 13.86 grams. Rings of this type date to circa 1150-750 BC.

Penannular gold ring made from twisted wires. There is an area of deformation or breakage to the wires in the centre of the ring. This is characteristic of the ring being opened and closed over a period of time. Although the ring looks to be possibly ancient, nothing about its form, design or manufacture is recognisable from a particular period. The results of metal analysis at the British Museum could also suggest an ancient origin.
