Complete d-shaped finger-ring of the mourning/memorial/memento-mori type. The exterior of the ring is heavily worked with deeply incised decoration. A skull is the central motif, to its right a reserve of cross-hatched lozenges, an oval-shaped flower with lozenges at its centre, a reserve of cross-hatched lozenges, a further flower, and a final reserve of cross-hatched lozenges, before returning to the skull. A medieval gold finger-ring dating to the period c.AD 1200-1500. The bezel of the ring is rectangular in plan, and in cross-section it widens where it meets the band before narrowing to its flat base. It is hollow, and its upper surface forms a border around a polished rectangular blue gemstone or glass setting within it. The stone exhibits post-depositional damage, comprising a chip to one corner and a diagonal gouge situated slightly off-centre.
