A gold Bronze age bracelet. In its current form, this is a roughly annular band with a small overlap. One end is a slightly thickened terminal of thin crescentic shape, the other is a thin, wavy edge most likely the product of the reworking of a broken end. It can be assumed that the original form was a penannular bracelet with two matching thickened terminals and a broad gently C-shaped band section, which survives in the reworked form. Remodelling after the loss of one terminal involved pulling the two ends together to overlap and tying them together with a thread (not surviving) pa…

A Bronze age strip of sheet gold which long, cigar shaped with squared off terminals. At either end is a set of three small perforations set in a triangle. These are roughly circular piercings with evidence for rotational action in their formation; the tiny lips of metal pushed through to the reverse have been crudely doubled back and flattened. There is no evidence for decoration. The strip has many transverse creases consistent with it having been rolled up and crushed flat (see above circumstances). The main additional damage is a repeating pattern of rounded hammer dents of varied…

Small penannular gold ring of sub-circular section with decorative narrow banding in yellow and paler gold; corrosion of the silver-rich stripes has caused blackening in places. The external surfaces are patchily worn. The gap is bridged by green corrosion products probably deriving from a base metal core. External diameter 14mm-15mm; internal diameter circa 7mm; breadth 4.5mm; width of gap circa 2mm; weight 4.13 grams. Composition Surface analysis indicated gold and silver contents od approx. 57% and 40% respectively. Identification A well known Late Bronze Age type, d…

A post-medieval gold finger ring which is formed through a series of vertical rectangles, each keyed to recieve enamel which survives in tiny amounts. Inside is an inscription stating "If you regard its' my reward:" However several letters are cut off at the top and bottom of the hoop, suggesting that the ring must have once been a simple straight-edged hoop, and has been cut down at a later date, perhaps to provide gold for other purposes.

A crudely made post-medieval gold finger ring. The hoop is circular and narrows towards the bottom; it is curved in cross-section with the inside of the hoop concave. The square raised bezel has a female portrait facing left, and incuse lettering to either side: the letters appear to be 'RICI' to the left, and 'VI' to the right. Analysis has shown that the ring is composed of 22 carat gold and the ring was reported under the Treasure Act 1996. Although it imitates late Roman rings in its general appearance, it does not do so in any other respect, and there is no evidence from the w…

A broken strip of gold, possibly from a finger ring, possibly intended to be used as bullion. The inner surface is smooth, whilst the outer has a series of mouldings. These include two opposed possible snake heads on either side of a flat oval section (the bezel?), and other crude rectangular block motifs. There are also a series of file marks along one of the edges, which do not appear to be ancient.

Small, plain penannular gold ring of flattened oval cross section; the ends taper slightly to flat terminals. Examination in the laboratory indicated that the object has a base metal core. External diameter 15.5x14mm; internal diameter 4.5mm; breadth 6mm; weight 6.18 grams. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of penannular ring from 'Havant area', Hampshire, indicated a gold content of 76 - 79 %, silver content of 16 - 18 %, the remainder being copper. The ring weighs 6.18 grams and the specific gravity measurement of 9 indicates that it has a base metal core.

Penannular gold ring with hoop of circular cross-section; original decorative banding in broad stripes of yellow and paler gold are very worn and best perceptible near inner surface. Roughness of gold at one terminal could be due to damage. The surface is heavily worn; scores and scrapes are likely to have occurred post-depositionally.
