A fragment of gold jewellery, possibly part of an earring dating to the Roman period. The fragment comprises a flat sheet of gold which has been folded and is approximately semi-circular in plan. The fragment measures 4mm in length, 6mm in width and 0.5mm in thickness. The fragment weighs 0.1 grams. However, it is too fragmentary to identify with any certainty.

A fragment of a gold earring probably dating to the first or second century AD. The fragment comprises the trapezoidal suspension plate. It is broken at its apex, but a horizontal seam on the reverse appears to indicate that it split to form two separate plates perhaps to accommodate a gem or cameo. The upper surface of the plate appears to be decorated with three longitudinal ribs. On the reverse of the plate are two gold suspension loops. Each loop is formed from a strip of gold wire which is rectangular in section. These would have been used to suspend two wire chains which would t…

An incomplete circular gold and garnet setting. It comprises a circular gold sheet back-plate to which has been soldered a domed framework of cells, made from upright strips of gold sheet. The framework has a central circular cell, which connects to three outer semi-circular cells. Between two of these is a straight cell wall, two more of which are probably missing from between the other semi-circular cells. All are now empty. A filigree collar, made from two strands of worn beaded wire, masks the junction between the back-plate and the framework.
The reverse is plain with a circular …

Thin gold ring, the band misshapen, with plain exterior, the interior inscribed: 'Piety the best monument', with maker's mark TS in a rectangle. It has not proved possible to identify the maker's mark from available sources, and as this is a type which goes on into the second quarter of the 18th century, there is not enough evidence to confirm a pre-1708 date.

Gold finger-ring with external inscription, of 15th-century date.
Description: The finger-ring is complete, comprising a broad, flat circular hoop of comparatively small diameter. Post-Medieval gold finger-ring.
Gold finger-ring with flattish band, inscribed inside in lower case 'be true in hart', with very faint maker's mark, which may possibly read ? H
Date: probably 17th Century or perhaps early 18th Century.
Discussion: A posy ring in the BM with similar short inscription 'In trust be juste' has what appears to be the same maker's mark, the letters HT conjoined with the T above the H, but it has not been identified in any of the standard reference works (1961,1202.414). Nonetheless the balance of probability is that this ring is more than 300…
