Circumstances of Find The coins were found on 12/11/2017 by metal detecting on cultivated land. The coins were found close together. No pottery or other material relating to a container was discovered. A scatter of Roman coins are known from the parish but no other Roman material has been reported to the PAS from this field. There is a note on the Somerset HER (ref: 43281) based on an OS record card of 1965 that: 'A gold follis of Valens, in mint condition, was found when ploughing. The coin has been incorporated into a brooch and is now in the possession of the finder's wife.' …
