Treasure Report: 2005/T8 Parish/County: Rowington, Warwickshire A medieval brooch of trefoil shape. Each part of the trefoil was originally enamelled. The enamel survives in two of the foils and is coloured blue and white. The third area has lost its enamel, which may have been of a different colour less well preserved in the ground. The bottom foil is decorated with five gold crescents and an asymmetrically placed star to the left of centre. Post medieval brooch; cast gold brooch of possible 16th century date. The brooch is a miniature ring of twisted gold wire sandwiched between two further rings of plain gold wire. There is further twisted wire forming a cross through the centre of the brooch, adorned with a gold pellet at the end of each arm and with a tiny ring of twisted wire in the centre. The back of the brooch has a fitting formed of a flat strip of gold which extends across the centre of the ring and is then curled up on itself at both ends to form loops. Medieval gold annular brooch, 21.5mm in diameter and 1 mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 2.64grams. The brooch is circular in form and rectangular in section with a slight concavity. It has been bent out of shape at some point and has small creases on part of its surface. The object has a small recess which holds a semi-circular pin bar. The upper surface of the brooch is inscribed AVE: MARIA GRATIA in Lombardic scrpit and has a narrow incised border on its inner edge.

Gold; finder’s analysis suggests 22 carat. Brooch. Frame of a brooch of oval or rhomboid form. A thin cast moulded front of curvilinear floral design inhalf relief is attached to a flat back-plate, so the body of the brooch is actually hollow. Front and back are crimped together to provide a setting for an oval stone (now lost). A miniature medieval brooch, circular in form, with a flat back and raised decoration on the front. This consists of four collets, made to accommodate stones, now lost, placed at equal distances at the top and bottom of the frame of the brooch. In the middle of the frame at each side is a semi-spherical moulding with punched decoration imitating granulation. The pin is intact and is secured by a rod within the frame of the brooch and a groove, which serves as a pin-rest. The brooch is gold and dates from the thirteenth or early fourteenth century.

Gold annular brooch dating to the Medieval period. A medieval brooch with a circular hoop, flat on the reverse. The front is ornamented with four punched bosses and four flowers placed at equal distances. Three of the flowers are soldered to the frame and the fourth is soldered to the attachment loop of the pin. The brooch is gold and dates from the late thirteenth or the fourteenth century.

Very fine medieval gold annular brooch dating from the 15th century. The brooch is hollow cast and is hemispherical in section. Part of the frame is made up of a pair of very finely cast three-dimensional clasped hands, the right hand faces the front and is positioned over the left. There is a raised band immediately below the knuckles suggesting the end of a sleeve. The left hand, facing the back of the brooch, has the same band but is less pronounced probably due to wear. Setting from an Anglo-Saxon composite disc brooch. The setting appears to consist of a dome of white material, with a band of gold ropework running around its diameter. Four strips of gold ropework run from this band up towards the centre of the dome, which has a circular setting of similar ropework, which may have formed a setting for a gem stone (now missing). Fragment from an early medieval gold brooch or mount. Rectangular fragment of very fine sheet gold with a filigree border and decoration (from one end to another) of a filigree S-scroll, a now empty raised circular cell, two filigree annulets, then a raised rectangular cell containing what appears to be possibly degraded blue enamel (now mostly opaque white). The reverse is undecorated, although the impression of the cells and filigree can be seen. Length 17.90mm, width 9.30mm, overall thickness 2.70mm, thickness of sheet 0.18mm, weight 0.79g.

Roman gold and silver oval brooch, 21mm long, 19mm wide and weighing 6.37grams. The brooch consists of an oval plate which is coated in silver on the reverse. The upper surface is decorated with three concentric ovals of gold ropework. The outer one is wider and higher than the inner two. These have incised lines running at oblique angles in differing directions, which gives the effect of a herringbone pattern. A gold pennanular brooch. The panannular frame is 26mm in diameter and 3mm wide.
