Description: A complete penannular ring, circular in cross section, with corrosion between the terminals. The corrosion likely indicates that it was made by covering a circular copper-alloy bar with gold sheet and hammering it flat, giving it the appearance of being made from solid gold. TREASURE CASE : 2015 T76. Description: A complete gold penannular ring. The object is circular in both shape and cross section with a narrow gap between the terminals which are flat ended. The surface comprises gold of a bright yellow colour decorated with narrow stripes of a paler silvery gold which can be clearly seen on the interior of the ring but are barely visible on the outer edge. TREASURE CASE : 2012 T437. A damaged composite ring made from a thin sheet of gold probably formed around two copper alloy penannular rings, now corroded away. Both terminals are broken and distorted. Dimensions: Diameter: 13.9mm; Width: 5.7mm; Thickness: 2.9mm; Weight 1.93g. Composition: Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of a composite ring from Willerby, Yorkshire, indicated a gold content of approximately 71-74%, a silver content of approximately 18-21% with at least7% copper. TREASURE CASE : 2003 T198 Penannular ring with narrow stripes of yellow and paler gold; the latter shows some black tarnish. The outer surface of the ring is very worn in patches, including the top of the hoop. The terminals are flat and display some tearing and 'pushing in', indicating that the piece may consist of a gold covering over a core of some other material (usually base metal).
