Description: Gold late medieval to early post medieval finger ring. It exhibits a rectangular bezel, trapezoidal in section set with a single oval stone. The stone is a pale blue/lilac colour and appears to be some form of quartz, possibly an amethyst. The shoulders project from either side of the bottom of the bezel and taper from a width of 3.1mm to 1.9mm at the bottom of the band. Each shoulder is engraved with six opposed chevrons, creating a series of three lozenges flanked by four triangles. The topmost lozenge and the triangles are filled with punched dots, creating a stippled …

Description: Gold unidentified ornament of Bronze Age date. The object consists of a strip of sheet gold formed into the shape of a pointed oval. At either end, the long edges of the band have been folded inwards in order to create the pointed terminals. Near the tip of each terminal is a circular perforation. Both perforations are now blocked with soil. Dimensions: Length: 21.9mm, width: 4.6mm, thickness: 1.6mm, weight: 1.2g. A complete early medieval gold terminal mount traditionally referred to as an 'aestel' (see Discussion). The mount is in the form of an animal's head, constructed from a sub-rectangular sheet of gold to which has been soldered a separate gold sheet back-plate, leaving a hollow void inside. At one end is a short, tubular socket which has been pierced through with a circular rivet-hole (now empty), torn open on the base-plate. The socket expands in width to form the roughly diamond-shaped animal head with a snubbed snout. It is slightly distorted by crush damage. The upper surface …

Description: Undated gold finger ring. Sheet band with median repoussé rib. There are at least two transverse creases which may indicate a join but the ring is slightly distorted, making this uncertain. Dimensions: External diameter 20mm. Width of band 7.5mm. Weight 2.29g. Discussion: Images of the ring have been seen by British Museum curators including Gillian Varndell, Neil Wilkin, Richard Hobbs and Barry Ager, and they have concluded that it cannot securely be dated to any particular period. It must therefore remain undated, and so does not fall under the provisions of …
