Description: A fragment of a possibly Gold or Silver Iron Age Stater. The identifiable parts of the coin can be attributed to Ancient British Coins type 2326 Clacton original dating to 80-50BC. Dimensions: The fragment measure 19.1mm by 11.7mm and weighs 1.9g. Discussion: The broken edges show a core that is not consistent with a precious metal. It is possible that this fragment may be a contemporary copy.  A similar example can be found at ESS-7B09C4.  Following review by the British Museum it was determined that this coin fragment is part of a previous hoard (2013 T141) …

A complete medieval gold iconographic style finger ring. The hoop is circular and a shallow 'D' shape in section. A gold disc or ingot of unknown purpose or date. It is circular in plan with two flat sides, and may be of consistent appearance with an Iron Age coin blank although this identification is speculative. It is 12.8mm in diameter, 4.1mm thick and weighs 4.63g.  Analysis of the metal content at the British Museum showed that the object was an alloy of gold, silver and copper and had a cast structure. It has been suggested that variation in the metal content across the surface might be due to slow cooling. Whilst there were no unusual elements detected in the composition, …

Description: A gold hoop probably dating to the post-medieval period, almost certainly modern. The hoop is circular in shape and is formed from a single gold wire that has been twisted along its length. There is a small crimp visible, where the wire has been joined. Dimensions: The diameter is 9.2mm and it weighs 0.2g. Discussion: If a ring, this is very small when compared, for example with NMS-4AFCF9. Other examples of twisted wire rings are made of two interwoven strands, such as LON-031583. Conclusion: In terms of precious metal content, this artefact qualifies as T…

A complete gold finger ring, dating to the Early Medieval period. The band is made from sheet gold which expands to form a lozenge-shaped bezel. A slim gold band, flat in cross-section, bent into a U-shape with both ends broken. May have been a ring when complete, or part of some other item of jewellery. Since the broken ends don’t match it is likely that a part is missing.
