Description: A gold hoop probably dating to the post-medieval period, almost certainly modern. The hoop is circular in shape and is formed from a single gold wire that has been twisted along its length. There is a small crimp visible, where the wire has been joined. Dimensions: The diameter is 9.2mm and it weighs 0.2g. Discussion: If a ring, this is very small when compared, for example with NMS-4AFCF9. Other examples of twisted wire rings are made of two interwoven strands, such as LON-031583. Conclusion: In terms of precious metal content, this artefact qualifies as T…

Solid gold cylindrical fragment which is partly flattened on one side (unclear if intentional or due to damage). The surface has some abrasions and light scratching. It appears to have been cut at both ends; possibly a piece of hack gold dating from the Early Medieval period. Dimensions: Weight: 3.6g, Length: 13.8mm, Thickness: 4.8mm. Discussion: It is likely to be over 300 years old. This suggestion is made due to the colour and apparent quality of the gold, as well as the lack of machine made marks, and comparisons to similar artefacts like SWYOR-C74077, DENO-68B0E8

Description: Undiagnostic gold fragment. A piece of thick wire, or rod, of circular section except where chopped at each end. The cutting has given the edges a wedge-like profile. Dimensions: Weight: 1.6g Length: 30.04mm Diameter: 2.42mm Discussion: The object has been examined by Ben Roberts, Curator of European Bronze Age at the British Museum, who determined that the fragment is undiagnostic in nature. Due to the undiagnostic nature of the find it cannot be securely dated to pre-1711 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996. Car…

Cast, gold fragment. The fragment is oblong, solid and was once part of a larger object. It is roughly D-shaped in cross section and tapering in height towards one end. At the higher end, the fragment appears to have been chopped. The shorter end shows some damage and it seems that part of the underside has been cut away here. The underside of the object is flat apart from a small dent and some minor ?cracks. The upper, curved, side is divided into two panels by a band running along the middle axis. It meets another band, that frames the lower edge of the object, at the narrower end. T…
