A small Roman ring made of gold, set with a single cabochon gemstone, probably an Almandine garnet. The stone has a domed surface and is sub-rectangular in shape, measuring 4.1mm by 3.2mm. The hoop is undecorated and has a plano-convex cross section at the shoulders, which tapers to a rounded cross section, 1.2mm thick, at the mid point of the hoop. The shoulders merge seamlessly into the bezel as per Guiraud (1989) Type 2c. The internal diameter of 12.9mm is possibly too small for a fully grown adult, suggesting that the ring may have belonged to a child or adolescent.
