A gold solidus of Valens, Trier mint (367-375/8). Obverse: D N VALENS P F AVG. Rosette-diademed, draped, & cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Valens & Valentinian seated facing, both holding globe above palm between them; behind, Victory standing facing; VICTOR-IA AVGG Mint mark: TROBS. RIC IX 17e and 39a The coin was found in the same parish as a gold solidus hoard containing coins of Gratian, Valentinian II and Theodosius (2005 T292), recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database as LIN-718484. The relationship between the coins is uncertain.

A Roman gold coin of uncertain emperor. Probably a solidus, possibly of Valens or Valentinian. The coin has been heavily worn (deliberately ?) in antiquity, removing most surface detail. It is also bent. It measures 15.6mm diameter by 0.7mm thick and weighs 1.93g.
