A complete Late Post Medieval gold finger ring, dating to c. AD 1800-1850. The hoop of the ring is slightly sub-circular in plan. The bezel has an orange/red glass sub-circular setting, with a slight blemish within the glass. The shoulders of the ring are decorated with a possible foliate design, but this is difficult to distinguish. The hoop has some old damage and there is a seam showing on the exterior of the hoop, caused during the manufacturing process. The ring is a memento mori ring with a hoop of flattened D cross-section. The inscription on the inside of the band gives the date of 13 Jan '97 (century unknown) in italic script, likely 1697. The outside of the band is almost completely plain apart from engraving of a skull.
