A post Medieval gold quarter Moeda with a value of 1000 Reis, of Peter II (Dom Pedro II) of Portugal (AD 1648-1706), dated 1689. Obverse: Crowned arms of Portugal. Reverse: Short cross pattee with quatrefoils in each angle. The coin is flat, but exhibits two parallel creases, suggesting that at some time it has been re-used as a token or charm by being deliberately bent into an S-shape. Mint of Lisbon. A gold finger ring of 18th century to modern date. The hoop is plain and very narrow (1.6mm wide) with a D shaped cross section 0.8mm thick which has flattened sides. The internal diameter is around 19.9mm. It appears to have been made from a length of metal curved around and soldered to a butt joint which has been filed smooth. The interior appears to have a black (lacquer?) coating. There are no inscriptions or marks.

A gold finger ring of 18th century to modern date. The hoop is plain and very narrow (1.5mm wide) with a D shaped cross section 0.8mm thick which has flattened sides. The internal diameter is around 18.3mm. It appears to have been made from a length of metal curved around and soldered to a butt joint which has been filed smooth. A narrow gold finger ring with a D-shape cross-section hoop. The flat inside is engraved with the inscription reading “NOT+VALVE+BUT+VERTVE+”. The outside of the ring is undecorated. A gold “fede” ring with a bezel composed of two clasped hands. The shoulders have been shaped to resemble ornate cuffs that are styled to show a gathered cuff at the wrist, with flaring lace tumbling from the cuff. This clothing inspired theme continues to influence the decoration of the remainder of the hoop, which has a geometric pattern of lozenges interspersed with circular cells. The flat inside is engraved with the inscription 'Joyned iu oen by god a loen', (the Jay has a cross bar midway down) this is a miss-spelling of 'joined in one by god alone'. VIRTVS AVGVSTI N reverse type depicting the Emperor galloping right, spearing enemy, second enemy with shield below horse. Mint of Trier. As RIC VII, p. 167, no. 36. This coin type is not listed in Bland and Loriot's corpus of Roman gold coins found in Britain (Bland and Loriot, 2010) and is only the fourth gold coin on the PAS dating to the Tetrarchic period.
