A Post-Medieval gold mourning finger-ring. The finger-ring is a circular loop with 'D' shaped cross-section the inner surface being flat and the external surface convexly curved. The loop has an internal diameter of c.15.7mm and external diameter of c.17.8mm. Gold penannular ring. A cast coiled round-section rod with 23 silver-grey bands around its outer surface, and with flat rounded opposed ends. A base metal core may be incorporated into the object, though is not visible to the naked eye. The banding confers a vermiform or grub-like appearance, but is worn from one side, and rendered indistinct on the other. Suggested date: late Bronze Age, 1000-800 BC. An incomplete gold Roman (AD 43-410) finger ring dating, probably dating to the first century. The ring is crushed and distorted. It has a distinctive construction using a thin sheet of gold. It has a simple D-shaped hoop widening at the shoulders to the bezel. The hoop is faceted, with a central transverse ridge and slightly angled sides, perhaps gently hammered to create sloping slides. An incomplete medieval gold finger ring dating to c.AD 1250-1400 The hoop is a simple band made from an oval section of gold wire. The hoop is even in thickness until reaching the bezel where it thickens and widens slightly at either side. The ring has a central bezel with a shoulder ridge upon either side. A gold and gem finger ring of Medieval date, about AD 1150 - 1500, but most likely to be AD 1200 - 1300. It is a slender stirrup shaped ring, of oval cross-section on the hoop, with the sides rising up to a narrow upright bezel which is triangular in profile. There is a setting at the apex. This holds a small turquoise cabochon opaque semi-precious or glass gem. There is a scratch on one face of the bezel, but no other decoration, markings or inscription. The surface comprises of a bright gold colour. A base metal core is covered by a sheath of gold.
