An early-medieval (late 6th to 7th century) gold Merovingian tremissis (c.580-670) minted at Quentovic (France) by Dagulfus (Prou 1122; Lafaurie 1996 Dagulfus type 2). Refs: Prou 1892: 246; Lafaurie 1996: 196-7.'
Obv.: Left-facing diademed bust; inscription starts at 3 o'clock and is retrograde. Leg.: 'VVIC IN PO[N]TI[O]'. Rev.: Inscription around a central motif described by Prou as 'some kind of tree', Lafaurie as 'feuille de vesce' (vetch, a kind of plant group). Leg.: from 8 o'clock, 'DAFVLFVS MNT'.
Measurements: 10.95mm diameter, 1.35mm thick and 1.40g in weight.
