A slim gold band, flat in cross-section, bent into a U-shape with both ends broken. May have been a ring when complete, or part of some other item of jewellery. Since the broken ends don’t match it is likely that a part is missing. Part of the exterior is decorated with a double row of incised dots, which may have continued around the band but have been worn away since they are very shallow. Likely Early Medieval to Medieval in date.
Dimensions: Diameter 24.1x19.7mm, width 4.5mm, thickness 0.9mm, stretched length c.60mm, weight 2.3g

A rolled-up strip of gold of probable Chalcolithic or Bronze Age date (c. 2500-800 BC). The strip of gold is sub-rectangular in plan, and is rolled up (width ways), forming a tight roll which has been slightly squashed into an oval shape (when viewed from the side). Eleven folds can be counted from the middle. There is some soil still attached to and within these folds. The strip is very thin (less than a diameter). The strip is wider in the middle than near the end, where it tapers from c. 21 mm in the middle towards 15 mm at the end (the end hidden in the folds in the centre of the …

Roman gold jewellery item, probably a clasp for a bracelet or necklace. The face is comprised of four deep circular box-cells, arranged in a diamond formation and alternatively filled with green and blue glass. Four small gold spheres are positioned between the cells, around the outside. A single gold wire is attached to the underside, each end of which is bent back on itself to form the hoops. The terminals of the wire overlap considerably, with one end wrapping up the side of the box-cells. No wear is visible on the hoops, but some damage is visible on the upper surface of the box-c…

TREASURE CASE 2011 T513: Roman Pendant
A tiny gem-set gold mount in the form of a miniature amphora, probably the bezel from a finger-ring. The circular neck, flanked by looped handles of filigree wire, has an open mouth, probably originally set with a tiny gem. The vessel's body comprises a rubbed-over box setting - with high sides, flat back and a single gold granule at its pointed base - containing a tear-shaped polished garnet with convex keeled surface. Points of former attachments are visible on both sides of the box setting, 1) at the flat back, the stub of a slender band, …
