The edges between the flat lengthways faces of the ingot are rounded. One end of the ingot appears complete and is rounded, with slight undulations to the surface noticeable (and some dents and scratches). The opposite end of the ingot appears incomplete with the break being rough, irregular and concave. It is 11.72mm long, 7.03mm wide and 5.81mm thick. 3.64g. Undecorated lengh of gold, now ring shaped but more twisted when first found. Eased into a ring shape by the finder! The marks at each end of the strip do not go right through. Thought to constitute a treasure item but on examination by Neil Wilkin and Gillian Varndell of the British Museum the object was considered to be undateable and so probably not 300 years old.

Fragment of gold. It is undiagnostic, and cannot be attributed to a specific period. Almost identical to WAW-97AC75 and very similar to ESS-043423 which have been assigned as unknown. Shares similarities with CAM-9461A7 also assigned as unknown and CORN-2BAA91 assigned to the Bronze Age on the basis of isotope analysis. Other gold fragments have been assigned as Viking hack gold NARC-88B423. This object could be Viking hack or more likely off a Bronze Age artefact but remains undiagnostic. The length is 16mm, width 11mm, weight 3.37g

An irregular fragment of gold broken off a larger piece. This is probably an undiagnostic shape and unless analysis proves otherwise, is undateable Although the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it may not qualify as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 because it cannot be proved to be more than 300 years old.

3 fragments of gold bar, flattened by hammering. Lengths 29, 25 and 9mm. 1 fragment of gold chopped from a thin round-sectioned bar, distorted to an 'S' shape, length 29mm. 1 very pitted and eroded gold fragment, length 15mm. 1 fragment of round-sectioned, tapering brass bar, length 30mm. Conclusion: The gold fragments could be ancient but diagnostic features are insufficient to attribute to any chronological or cultural context. TREASURE CASE : 2013 T587. Small gold-alloy ingot. The ingot is a flattened irregular oval, sub-rectangular in cross-section. It seems likely that it has been hammered to flatten it out, but surface irregularities remain. On one of the flattened surfaces, the metal has been heavily scratched. The pale yellowish colour suggests an alloy of gold and silver. The form of the ingot is not diagnostic to any particular period. A wide gold finger ring which has a cast 'cut-out' design with inscribed detail. The design is framed by a strip border above and below decorated with vertical and oblique lines. The main part of the pattern consists of two erotic scenes or two depictions of the same event. A naked shaggy headed, bearded human-like male with a horse like tail crouches over the hind quarters of a donkey-like animal. The 'donkey' looks back at the 'man' who has his erect member pointing at the 'donkey's' rear it in one scene. In the other scene the man has entered the animal. This ring has been examin…

An amorphous glob of molten gold, now in two pieces that survives as evidence of goldworking of an uncertain date. The gold is very pure, with a slightly pitted surface of a solidified fluid. One end of the glob is larger and heavier with a long neck that has broken with a now separate almost fan-shaped terminal. The high purity, pitted surface and solidified fluid form confirms that this gold has been (re)worked rather than being an example of a naturally occurring nugget of gold ore. As the gold is undiagnostic and cannot be proven to be more than 300 years old, the object do…
