TREASURE CASE : 2012 T431 A small lump of gold of uncertain date. The object is sub-circular in plan with a D-shaped section and smooth rounded edges. It is likely to be casting waste. Date: Unknown Dimensions: Diameter: 14.4mm; Thickness: 4.4mm; Weight 5.3g. Discussion: Due to the undiagnostic nature of the find, and despite it containing a minimum of 10% precious metal, it cannot be securely dated to pre-1712 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.

A gold ring or hoop, damaged. The ring has been pinched so that it has a drop-shaped plan. The ring is circular in section, but with a narrow flattened face internally. The surface of the ring has small nicks and irregularities suggestive of a general lack of finishing after casting and damage sustained during its use prior to deposition. No hallmarks or other identifying features are visible.

Fragment of a plain gold rod. The gold rod is generally rectangular in section and is slightly bent and twisted. One end has a plain, smooth terminal; the other end has been bifacially cut. The surface is pitted; there is no decoration. The rod measures 18.42mm long, 3.48mm wide and 2.06mm thick and weighs 1.61g. Due to its undiagnostic nature it does not represent Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act (1996).

An incomplete gold dog brooch of uncertain date, possibly early Post-Medieval. This three dimensional brooch seems to have been hollow or at least the body was hollow. The dog is positioned left with the head turned forwards. One ear is missing however the ear nearest the tail survives in good condition. All four legs are missing and there is a break across the chest area that is now filled with mud. The curled tail survives. At the sub-rectangular end it has two opposite facets making it 'V-shaped in side view. The surface is smooth in some areas and pitted in places. A fragment of a gold unidentified object of unknown date. It measures 14.70x9.73x4.27mm and weighs 5.54g. The fragment is broken at either short end, the thinner of which looks a little bent and is sharper, as though it has been cut. The wider end is smoother. In cross section these ends are rectangular with rounded edges and measure 9.43x4.27mm and 9.73x1.66m. The long edges are slightly chamfered on either face. In profile, the fragment is triangular in shape.
