A fragment of a Roman gold coin, probably a contemporary copy of a solidus of the House of Valentinian (AD 364-78) with garbled legends. The obverse appears to be OH VALE[ ] which is probably copying D N VALE[NS or NTINIANVS P F AVG] and the reverse is [ ]ITVOR[ ] which most likely copies RESTIVTOR REI PVBLICAE or similar, with and emperor standing, holding Victory on globe and standard. The reverse depicts a beaded upright, which seems to be part of the pole of the standard. Roman gold finger ring of keeled type. The intaglio portrays a standing male figure looking left with objects held in each hand, probably a depiction of Mercury holding a caduceus (a staff with two snakes winding around it) and a money-bag (Henig 1978,…

A Gold semissis of the House of Constantine (Constantius II or Constans as Caesar) dating to AD 335. VICTORIA CAESARVM reverse type depiciting Victory advancing left holding wreath and palm. Mint of Siscia. This type is recorded for a solidus (RIC VII, p. 457, cf. 248-9), but not a semissis (see RIC VII, p. 457, nos. 250-1 for other types). This therefore appears to be the first example of this particular coins.
