Complete subannular finger-ring with hollow cast lobed bezel reset with pear-shaped facetted blue stone, in a cut related to the rose cut. The stone is extensively scratched and nibbled around the girdle, it appears to be cracked. It does not match the bezel setting which is also very rubbed. The original bezel is likely to have been four lobed, and there is a secondary border of eight crescent shaped indentations. It is unclear what would have been set within this bezel in its first iteration. The stone has not been tested, but is likely to be a sapphire. The decoration of the should…

A bent and squashed gold posy ring of probable 17th century date, inscribed on the inside of the hoop: Noe recumpence but Love (i.e. No recompense but Love). The hoop is an elongated D-shape in cross-section, being flat to the inside surface and measuring 2.9x1.0mm. One edge is jagged and rough to the touch. The outside surface of the finger-ring is undecorated. In the report for that item, it is suggested that the spel…

Description: A post-medieval (AD1575-1625) gold finger-ring set with an engraved intaglio in an oval bezel. The intaglio is made of an opaque white material which has a very crazed surface and is a portrait of a bearded male bust facing right with a collar, apparently with collar points below the chin. This may possibly be a portrait of a Roman Emperor, although there is no crown or diadem visible. Raman spectroscopy carried out on the stone by the British Museum's Department of Scientific Research identified it as a rock made of very fine intergrowths of quartz and moganite …

A circular gold ring, almost flat in cross-section. The exterior is decorated by two bands of beading, one along either edge. The beaded dots or pellets are mostly square in shape but irregular, and do not appear machine made; they seem to result from the use of a rectangular punch which made two pellets at a time. The beaded lines are separated from the centre of the hoop by a narrow ridge, and the centre is undecorated and slightly sunken. There is no decoration on the inner surface.
