Small penannular ring; the face-plates forming the hoop are made from gold wires. The side plates (terminals) are of sheet gold but it is unclear whether these are pressure welded or soldered on. The piece has been squashed and distorted but the original section would have been triangular. A gold ornament of a well-known Late Bronze Age type, dating to 1000-750BC; these are usually known as 'lock-rings'. A closely similar example in size and construction in the British Museum's Greenwell Collection (WG 20) was found at Cheeseburn Grange, Northumberland.
