An incomplete stone whetstone possibly of Bronze Age date. The whetstone is made from a fine-grained grey stone. It is rectangular-sectioned with with worn broadly rounded terminals. The piece is heavily worn.
It is extremely difficult to date whetstones accurately without any supporting contextual evidence. This object was found in an area of known Bronze Age activity, a similar date therefore cannot be ruled out.

A complete whetstone or honestone of unknown date.
Description: The object made from dark grey stone. It is sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular and in profile. One side is flat and the other side curves down to the thin end from about half way along the length. The butt has a V-shaped slot.
Measurements: Length: 107.5mm long, 33.2mm wide, 17.7mm thick (at the butt), weight 112.96g.

A fragment of whetstone of uncertain date. The object is roughly rectangular in shape with breaks at both ends. There are traces of use on one side and one edge, indicated by a series of diagonally scored lines. The object is a mid-dark grey in colour.
Although the function of the object is quite clear, due to its incomplete state it is difficult to give it an accurate date, though is likely to be Medieval or later (AD1100-1800).

An incomplete and worn stone object, probably a whetstone or hone, of uncertain date. It is missing parts of both ends due to old breaks and demonstrates evidence of use-wear and post-depositional corrosion. The object is rectangular in form and section, formed from a fine grained and micaceous stone, probably a schist or similar. At the top is a central circular perforation that is countersunk on both faces suggesting it was drilled from both directions. One side of the top is missing due to old breaks.
