A broadly circular lead plug/mend for the repair of a damaged vessel. An abraded sherd survives attached. It has a sandy orange fabric with red inclusions, including one large one. This is undiagnostic (Roman to post-medieval) although a medieval date seems plausible. The lead has a shiny surface and now has is an off-white colour.

A circular lead spindle whorl. The spindle whorl is plano-convex and undecorated. The central perforation for the spindle is approximately 9.8 mm in diamater. It measures 32.06 mm in diameter, 9.5 mm thick and weighs 43.1 grams. It is plain and undecorated. As such objects were used for a wide period of time, from the Roman period through to the post-medieval, the dating for this plain example is uncertain.

A lead of weight of uncertain date and function. The weight is well made with a bulbous body and an integrally cast suspension loop. It may have served as a plumb bob, a fishing or net weight or a trade weight. Identifying the precise function of weights is extremely difficult when they are found out of context. It measures 54.41 mm in length, 21.57 mm wide and 19.16 mm thick. It weighs 78.5 grams.

A lead musket ball misshapen by impact and probably dating to the 17th century. The musket ball measures 12.71mm diameter and weighs 17.3gms.

A roughly circular lead spindle whorl from a stratified Roman site. The object was originally identified as a loom weight but its size and the shape and size of the central perforation suggests a heavy spindle whorl rather than a loom weight. The weight measures 37.52mm diameter with the perforation measuring 9.46mm in diameter, 14.41mm thick and weighs 104.3gms.

A conical lead weight from a stratified Roman site. The weight has a hole from the top going through to the base that varies in width and is off-centre. Originally this object was identified as a plumb-bob but the perforation is not central and the object would have swing unevenly, so it is suggested that this is not a plumb-bob but a weight possibly used in the weighing of goods.

A sub-oval lead plug/mend for the repair of a damaged vessel. The larger element is flat; the smaller one above the groove is slightly convex. The larger element extends beyond the groove in one direction. In the absence of any diagnostic pottery surviving within the groove the mend is difficult to date. However, given the large number of Roman finds made in the vicinity such a date is suggested.
