A probable Medieval or Post Medieval pot mend of unknown date, probably cAD 1200 - 1700.  The find is a globular oval mass of lead with two layers, upper and lower. The two layers are slightly flattened and there is indication of the two halves of the mass having been made to lie either side of a break in a pot. The flattened areas represent the spreading of the outer surfaces, one inside the pot, the other outside, to hold it in position.  Dimensions: 37.5mm in length; 27mm in width; 12.4mm thick; 64.7g in weight

A pot mend of unknown date, Roman to Post Medieval, c AD 43 - 1700.  The find is a very roughly oval mass of lead in two layers, upper and lower. One layer is flattened and the other, smaller, is slightly, and roughly, domed. They are joined by a 'neck' of lead and are slightly off set from one another. The neck would have been inserted into the hole in the pot and more lead added to the inner and outer surfaces of the pot to hold it all together and make it water-tight. When the pot eventually broke away, the mend remained. Dimensions: Layer 1 (d…

Rim sherd of possible Early Medieval pottery, rounded rim. Badly abraded. No signs of slip, decoration, or other surface treatment.; no signs of blackening from soot or burning; the material has 30-40% grog. The original size and function of the pot is unclear. All this information suggests this was part of a utilitarian vessel, rather than a high-quality or high-status ceramic.

A body sherd of Medieval sandy-ware or a similar derivative type, dating c. 1100-1400. The sherd demonstrates frequent inclusions of fine sand temper, with larger whitish quartz inclusions occuring more infrequently. The outer surface of the sherd is a brownish red oxidised colour, while the innner surface evidently was fired in a more reduced atmosphere, being of a medium to dark grey colour. The edges of the sherd as well as the surfaces demonstrate signs of rolling and abrasion consistent with deposition in a ploughsoil environment, though aside from this the piece survives in rela…
