Medieval to Post Medieval iron axe head. In form it it is like a devolved short bearded axe. This may be indicitve of a date earlier in the suggested range or it may have been a form adopted by a Post Medieval smith to be there signature shape for an axe. The shaft loop is thick walled and asymmetrical. Probably dates to between c1100 and c1800 AD. Length 174mm, width 78mm, thickness 35mm, weight 486g.

Ceramic handle sherd from vessel of medieval date, probably a jug (c. 1100 - 1500 AD). The sherd is broadly rectangular in shape, widening and thickening at one end, with a prominent curve. It terminates at each end in a lightly-abraded break. There is a wide, U-shaped groove running along the exterior surface. The sherd has a dark grey core, with a light grey exterior surface and an orange interior surface. There are small patches of yellow-brown glaze on the exterior surface. A complete brooch in the shape of a scutum, pointed oval or eye, with a central circular protrusion, (diameter: 12mm) which has a second, smaller circular protrusion (diameter: 4mm) in the centre. It can be tentatively identified as Roman. The back of the object is flat, with a hollow circle in the centre where the front of the brooch is raised. There is a hinged pin and a small, possibly damaged, catchplate. Large base sherd of a Roman Mancetter-Hartshill mortarium dating from the 2nd-4th century. A large part of the base and wall survive; some of the breaks look comparably fresh. It was wheel-thrown and the fabric is creamy-white/pinkish and fine-textured; the core appears pink/orange. There are a number of large inclusions of fine quartz and occasional red-brown and white particles; it appears gritted with large angular dark grey quartz and and possibly smaller inclusions of red-brown sandstone.

A broken handle from an amphora, Roman period, with soft, rough surface. The fabric light brown/orange both inside and out, mica rich, with calcite and fine grit inclusions. One internal (before breakage) fissure has 4 very fine, light-coloured hairs c1mm long. The surface is porous with several large voids. One very large axial void, 22 x 7 x 19 mm deep, has created a fine longitudinal, surface crack, with 90 degree offshoot. Fractures are very worn. This is a melon type bead made from dark blue glass, dating to the Early Roman period, between AD 43-200. The perforation is circular and the outside decorated with vertical grooves with a floral cross-section. The bead is irregular in plan and cross section, the central hole is not quite circular in shape. The diameter is 29mm and the weight 15.44g. This is comparable with: LANCUM-517458 and SWYOR-114861.

A fragment of Roman building material. The object has 6 diagonal lines on the reverse. It is slightly rectangular in profile and has an even edge. The object is very worn and has some dark discolouration on both sides. The length is 37mm, the width is 36 mm, thickness 25mm and the weight 36.70g. A fragment of a Roman vessel. The ojbect is thicker towards the end of the fragment, and nearing the top of the piece there is evidence of some linear decoration. The fragment is red in colour but there appears to be some other materials that make up the material. There is some discolouration which is mostly dark brown in colour. The length is 43mm, the width is 43mm, thickness 13mm and the weight 10.88g. This fragment is probably from the rim. Similar objects can be seen in records WAW-413149, GLO-966685 and HESH-C13D84.
