A possible burin formed on a crude blade of white flint. Unknown date, Mesolithic to Bronze Age (10,000 - 1000 BC). It is unclear where the flint was struck from. The faces are uneven, and most have a stepped termination scar. One end of the blade is much narrower and thinner. One side of this projection has short, abrupt, sub-parallel retouch, possibly to form a burin. There appears to be a removal across the end of the spur from the retouched edge. The tool is 38.1mm long, 16.3mm wide, 8.2mm thick. 3.3g. Burins are typically mesolithic, but the reuse of a crude blade i…

A struck flake tool of brown flint, 44mm in length with a pronounced bulb of percussion and prepared striking platform at the proximal end. The dorsal surface has multi-directional removal scars. The distal end tapers and appears to have been slightly notched with a spall removal along one side, creating a burin point.

A flint flake, probably a burin, of probable Mesolithic date, 10000 BC - 4000 BC. It is formed on a secondary flake of opaque light grey flint with cortex surviving on the left edge of the distal end. It is sub-oval in plan, with several removal scars on the dorsal face making it oval in cross-section. There is a burin spall removal from the distal end along the ventral face at the right hand side. This, and additional flaking on the distal end, create a chisel like point at the distal end which could be used for cutting grooves. It is 29mm long, 20.3mm wide and 9.5…

There is abrupt, sub-parallel retouch along the distal end of the dorsal face to form a clear point at the upper right hand corner. A strip of light pink cortex has been retained on the dorsal face running from the top left corner down to the proximal end. The ventral face shows a clear bulb of percussion but no retouch. The overall dimensions are as follows: 28.84mm in length, 26.05mm in width, 8.10mm in thickness and 6.49g in weight.

The dorsal surface contains six predominant negative scars and short scaled flaking along the right-hand edge. The proximal and distal edges have been blunted with the distal edge forming a projecting spur along both the left- and right-hand edges. The right- and left-hand edges have some abrupt retouch. Secondary soft hammer struck flake, of light grey flint, now patinated white towards the distal end and one lateral edge. The bulb of percussion has been removed/snapped off and two burin spalls have been struck down the thinner lateral edge from the side of the platform, ending with classic hinge terminations, the steeper of the lateral edges has been finely retouched on the dorsal face edge, the thinner of the lateral edges is damaged and may have been originally left sharp. Late (final) Upper Palaeolithic to Mesolithic, 12,000 to 4,000 BC.

A complete flint Burin of Mesolithic to Neolithic date (9000-1500 BC). The object is sub-ovate in plan and concavo-convex in section. The dorsal surface has multiple negative scars. The proximal edge is abruptly blunted and rounded, while the distal end has a central semi-circular notch and a projecting spur along the right hand edge. The ventral surface is slightly concave with the exception of a bulb of percussion at the proximal end, which has two negative scars situated over it. Late Mesolithic to Early Iron Age chert microlithic burin. It has been formed on a tertiary piece of black chert debitage. There is wear gloss on most of the chert. The burin has been formed at the distal point with the removals creating a point 2mm high. A small area of low angled, scaled, semi-invasive retouch to one of the distal shoulders has produced a notch that could also be utilised as a tool. There is a series of abrupt parallel removals at the proximal end, probably to make it easier to use, and to apply pressure in particular. Probably dates to between c7000 and c400 BC, pro…

Late Neolithic to Early Iron Age chert burin. It has been formed on a secondary piece of black 'Marles' chert, probably a worked out core. The retained limestone cortex on the proximal end exhibits quite a high degree of wear, and there is wear gloss on most of the chert. There is sub-parallel, semi-short, abrupt retouch to the shorter of the tool's mesals. This is probably to make the toll more ergonomic but would also have created a small but functional side scraper. The shoulder of this mesal has been reduced with a series of removals at its distal end. The longer mesal has short, …
