Object type: FABRICATOR
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A possible Mesolithic to Neolithic fabricator, dating to the period 8000 BC- 1000 BC. It is oblong in shape, measuring 80.18mm in length and 24.39mm at maximum width, though it tapers to a point at either end. The thickness is 15.44mm. It is a secondary flake, as a small portion (no more than 10%) of the cortex survives on the dorsal face at the bottom. From the cortex, a light grey colour, the surrounding area is a dark grey in colour, though this lightens as the fabricator continues. The retouch is covering, and is scaled and low angle. The ventral face is completely smooth, and a l…

A late Mesolithic flint bladelet dating to the period c. 7000 - 4001 BC. The bladelet is sub-rectangular in plan with a slight curve along the length of the blade and a diagonal flaw across both sides of the blade. The dorsal surface exhibits three negative flake removal scars with two smaller negative flake removal scars which terminate at the diagonal flaw. The ventral surface retains a small bulb of percussion, indicating manufacture by soft-hammer striking. The flint is mottled mid - light grey in colour. There is some evidence of short, abrupt, scaled retouch along both sides.

County: West Berkshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A fragment of a flint Neolithic polished axe head broken and possibly untilised as a core or a scraper dating to the period c. 4000-2350 BC. The original axe head was a Clough type B lenticular or double-convex polished axe head. The break was then used as a striking platform for the removal of bladelets. Three arrises are visible on the dorsal side of the axe-head. Part of the original cutting edge is still visible along the distal edge, however, the majority of the distal edge has been invasively retouched, removing the cutting edge and squaring the chunk off.
