Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Calderdale
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint retouched flake, probably of Mesolithic to Bronze Age date, 10,000 BC - 1000 BC. It is a tertiary flake of patinated yellow grey flint with some damage to the edges. The flake is roughly rounded. It has very short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch on the sides and distal end except where the edge is missing. The retouch does not form a thick enough edge to be a scraper, and is perhaps best described as a utilised flake. The flake is 21.2mm long, 22.4mm wide and 7.1mm thick. 2.3g.

A flint retouched blade of uncertain date, Mesolithic to Bronze Age, 9000 BC - 1000 BC. It is formed on a thick blade of opaque dark grey cherty flint. The left edge has short, abrupt, sub-parallel retouch. The left side of the dorsal face has several removal scars at right angles to the blade, suggesting it is debitage that has been utilised. This is more typical of flints from the later Neolithic onwards. Though the blade is the right size for a Mesolithic group A microlith, the shape and working do not match. The object is 38.8mm long, 13mm wide and 6.4mm thick. 3.2g.
