Object type: ASSEMBLAGE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A large flint assemblage of later Mesolithic date, probably representing blade and microlith production. The assemblage comprises:
7 complete and incomplete microliths, all with short abrupt retouch along one or both sides and ranging in length from 9.9mm to 22.6mm. Size and form suggest a later Mesolithic date. Identifiable types include: an obliquely blunted scalene triangle and a curved point with retouch to one side of the base, possibly another incomplete obliquely blunted scalene triangle (Clark Group A; Jacobi 1a)); 4 backed or rod types (Clark Group B; Jacobi …

Object type: CORE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Greater London Authority
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A large flint blade core of later mesolithic date with a single striking platform, struck from a dark brown flint. The core is triangular in shape with parallel removal scars around half of its circumference. A patch of grey-brown cortex remains down one side. The other has a single large removal scar with battering damage and small flaked removals around the edge, running off it one side perpendicular to the striking platform and partially overlying it. This suggests a secondary use for the core, possibly as a hammer.

Object type: MICROLITH
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Surrey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete flint microlith of early Mesolithic date (Clark Group F; Jacobi Group C, 10a), probably a Horsham point. The original form was asymmetrical and triangular. One long side is backed with abrupt retouch, the convex side feathers to an edge which has a patch of short abrupt retouch blunting it at the proximal end and an area of what may be use related damage towards the distal end. The proximal end is concave with a hollow base defined by abrupt retouch. The distal point has broken off.

Object type: PERFORATED OBJECT
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A flint pebble macehead manufactured from a naturally perforated flint sponge fossil pebble of light grey flint. The object is sub triangular in shape and has been roughly worked with hard hammered flaking around all sides; the central piercing is unworked and comprises the natural void of the sponge body. There is extensive battering damage around the exterior, likely from use.
Artefacts of this type are presumed to be of Mesolithic date.

Object type: PICK
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A flint 'Thames pick' of Mesolithic date, 154.5mm in length, struck from a long flint pebble or nodule of dark grey flint. The proximal end / butt end of the tool retains its light brown cortex and the cross section of the tool appears to follow the original sub rounded profile of the nodule, with only the front portion being worked with hard hammered removals. The cutting edge is wedge shaped and appears to have some use-related damage; originally the tip may have been shaped with one or more tranchet removals but these are no longer particularly clear.

A secondary core trimming or rejuvenation flake of Mesolithic or later date, struck from a dark grey flint and 42.5mm in length. The flake is curved, with a small striking platform at the proximal end with a low bulbar scar suggesting soft-hammer removal. There are a number of parallel removal scars on the proximal half of the dorsal surface, including one which has resulted in a hinge fracture. A large patch of brown coloured cortex remains on the curved distal end.

County: Surrey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A worked flint fabricator, possibly incomplete and of mesolithic to bronze age date. The tool is triangular in shape with lenticular cross section, 50.2mm long and struck from a dark brown flint. The flint is bifacially worked with small areas of long low angle sub parallel retouch on one long edge and a shallow notch with abrupt scaled retouch on the other.
Possibly part of a fabricator or the pre form for a knife or point.

Object type: TRANCHET AXEHEAD
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A small Mesolithic tranchet axehead made from a dark grey flint which has a heavily recorticated or patinated white surface resulting from prolonged exposure to calcareous sediments. The cross section is D shaped and asymmetrical with one curved long side refined with flaked removals and one flattened side which is less coherently worked and retains a small patch of cortex towards the rear. The shape of this flat side appears to be a response to the original form of the nodule rather than a deliberate attempt to back the blade; the cross section becomes more lenticular towards the…
