Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Surrey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete Mesolithic to Early Bronze Age struck tertiary flake made from semi-translucent light brown flint. The proximal end has been lost due to a transverse break. The dorsal face has three scars where previous flakes were detached and includes a small area of cortex. The ventral face has ripples of percussion emanating from the break, but no bulb of percussion. There is no evidence of retouch, but one edge exhibits possible wear.

A flint blade core of probable Neolithic date.
Description: The core is fabricated on a piece of pale brown flint. There is an area of off-white cortex remaining on one side. Several small striking platforms are visible, from which bladelets have been struck in various directions. A fairly dark greyish brown secondary flint scraper of unknown date. A pronounced bulb of percussion on its convex Ventral Face suggests it may have been produced using a hard-hammer technique. There is a series of conchordial waves on its slightly concave Dorsal Face. A small Striking Platform (10.0 mm long x 3.0 mm wide) survives at the proximal end and an area of cortex (23 mm long and tapering from 13.0 mm to 3.0 mm wide) remains on the distal end. The cutting edge (26.0 mm long) appears to have been unretouched.

A complete but abraded leaf-shaped arrowhead of probable Neolithic date (2900 - 2150 BC). The arrowhead is formed on a mid-grey coloured tertiary flint flake; both the dorsal and ventral faces are extensively retouched. The arrowhead is lentoid or pointed oval (an irregular pentagon) in plan and lentoid in cross section. The butt of the arrowhead and one long edge have been lost through abrasion in the ploughsoil. The flake upon which this arrowhead has been formed has been trimmed and extensively reworked removing any trace of striking platform or bulb of percussion. In profile the a…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of Neolithic polished flint axehead c. 4000 - 2350 BC
The fragment is sub-rectangular in plan and has a rounded pointed oval shaped section. Both ends of the axehead have broken off and it has taken serious other strikes around the axhead, with only about half of the side remaining fairly smooth and polished top surface. It has extensive flaking across the surface but no obvious retouch suggesting attempts were made to rework the axehead but no clear edge appears to have been added.
