Prehistoric flint knife or awl, probably of Neolithic date The knife is incomplete with the tip fragment represented (with a surviving length of 32.2mm, a maximum thickness of 4.0mm and a weight of 2.3g). Although the knife appears to have broken across its width (where it has a width of 15.5mm), there appears to be retouch over the break, perhaps suggesting the tip was deliberately backed and implying a possibly secondary use as an awl. Both sides are retouched along their entire surviving lengths, as they converge to the tip. The retouch is confined to the dorsal surface, although …

Early Bronze Age leaf-shaped, short tanged flint dagger of c. 2250 - 2000BC date The dagger is of 'Beaker Type' and is complete and comparatively small (with a length of 113.2mm, a maximum width of 40.2mm and a weight of 41.0g). The butt (with a length of 38mm) is of pointed V-shaped form. The form of the butt was likely to have been determined by a patch of rough cortex running along one edge of the butt and subsequently mirrored on the opposite side. The sides diverge (for a length of 28mm) before rounded notches on both sides (where the dagger has a width of 30.3mm) formed by pres…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Denbighshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Neolithic or Early Bronze Age flint scraper The scraper is made on a flake from a polished flint axe made during the Neolithic. The dorsal surface has been retouched along the distal end to form the scraper edge. One side has suffered more recent damage and a recent flake has been lost from the ventral surface. Hard-hammer percussion removed the flake. One of the facets near the distal end has been polished suggesting the removal from a Neolithic flint axe. The flint is non-cortical and has patinated yellow-brown. Length - 37.4mm; width - 25.2mm, thickness - 7.5mm, weight - 6.2g
