A complete, polished stone axehead of Neolithic date. It is pointed-oval in shape, with an oval section, and flares from the butt toward the cutting edge. The stone is light grey-green in colour with reddish-brown streaks across the surface. The axe is polished all over. The cutting edge remains sharp and there are few signs of wear on either face, with only one noticable large chip at one edge of the blade, which appears to have occured in antiquity. Likewise, a chip is visible at the butt end, which gives the butt a pointed oval shape when viewed in plan. The surface of the chip is …

Incomplete Neolithic polished axe head. The axe is wedge-shaped, with smooth cutting edge and broken butt-end. The surface of the axe has suffered much damage, seemingly in antiquity. One side is smooth and worn with damage towards the top and the butt-end, whereas approximately half of the the other side is damaged. Only one edge remains, which is flattened and smooth. The other edge is entirely damaged. In cross-section the sides of the axe are convex, with the widest point being off-centre to the remaining area of axe, again showing that one original edge is missing. The axe is a m…

Fragment of a polished greenstone axe, probably a Great Langdale product. Only the cutting end of the axe remains which is lozenge shaped in cross-section. The cutting edge is flared and has well patinated old breaks probably made during use rather than later damage. The beginnings of a side facet one one side only is visible just before the break.
