Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age flint fabricator, dating to 2700 - 1600 BC. It is made on a a tertiary flake of pale grey-brown flint which has patinated to an off white with iron staining. The flake retains the striking platform with a well defined bulb and waves of percussion on the ventral face.Dorsally are several elongate, parallel flaking scars. The fabricator has been made by crude, abrupt retouch along the side margins from the ventral face. Both ends are abraded, possibly to blunt them. There are two small areas of heavily abraded nodule cortex on the dorsal face. On the ventral face are waves of percussion and bulb of percussion with bulbar scar. There is a striking platform at the proximal end. The scraper has a plano-convex cross section. On the dorsal face are several large flake scars. The distal end has been worked from the ventral face with semi-invasive small re-touch. Length: 67.49 mm Width: 47.98 mm Thickne…

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete Neolithic flaked and polished axe, dating to 4000-2350 BC. The butt of the axe only remains. Made from mid grey flint which has patinated to a chalky off-white with iron staining. It has a lentoid cross section with well developed faceted margins. The faces of the axe are heavily polished. The butt tapers from the break to an out curved terminal. There is some recent damage to the end and sides. The break is of some age as it has re-patinated. It was possibly broken purposefully in order to reuse the raw material. Length: 65.81 mm Width: 47.08 mm Thickness: 22.73 mm

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A later Neolithic flaked and partially polished axehead, dating to 2700-2350 BC. The tapered butt of the axe remains. The flint was mid grey and has a patchy off-white and blue-white patina. There is a small area of abraded nodule cortex on one face of the axe. It is lozenge shaped in cross section. Some parts of the axe have been polished and it is possible that the missing cutting edge had been refined through polishing. It is also possibly unfinished as a result of the break across the body which may have occurred in an effort to thin it further. Length: 84.31 mm Width: 53.25 mm

Two late Neolithic to early Bronze Age chunks of burnt flint possibly used as a prehistoric pot boilers dating to 3300 - 1600 BC. No.1: A large, irregularly shaped chunk, it shows broad flake removal scars so is a possible re-utilised multi-platform core or re-rejuvenation flake. The flint is opaque with a low-gloss patina, the surface is covered with craze-cracking with a whitish-grey appearance which is consistent with a heating and rapid cooling cycle. There are also reddish-brown ferrous stains, mainly to flake scar ridges. Date: Late Neolithic to early Bronze Age Dimensions: 5…
