One secondary and one tertiary flint waste flakes. Both are of opaque mid grey to beige flint with a low-gloss patina. A] The striking platform and bulb of percussion are missing. There is a hinge fracture at the distal end on the ventral face. It retains a small area of abraded cortex at the distal end on the dorsal face. A fault in the flint has caused the ventral face to fracture irregularly. There is some post-depositional edge damage. Dimensions: Length; 56.73 mm Width; 36.74 mm Thickness; 8.64 Weight: 14.52 g B] A small striking platform and a low bulb of percussion at the p…

Object type: CORE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Dorset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint core. A single platform bladelet core of irregular shape, but tending towards conical. Made from a piece of mid grey mottled nodule flint with a low gloss patina. There is some thick, off-white cortex remaining at the pointed base. The odd shape is probably due to the presence at one side of an irregular void which prevented this side from being worked further. The rest of the "conical" surface is covered in multiple converging bladelet removal scars. The flakes have been removed from a single platform. The edges of the core are damaged, possibly from re-use as a scraper. Ther…

A late Neolithic to early Bronze Age flint borer dating to 1600 BC - 3300 BC. A pointed tool used to make holes. Made on a secondary trapezoidal flake. A very small area of cortex remains on the distal margin. The dorsal face shows irregular flake scars across its centre, the right side distal end has been tapered to a point by deliberate flaking leading away from the working point. The flaking is fairly crude creating hackly ridges across the right side margin by removal of spalls perpendicular to the tip to form a chisel-like edge. The margin of the pointed tip shows finer pressure …

A bifacially worked implement which is probably a fragment of a knife. It has been made across a larger flake of translucent pale grey flint which has a milky, mid gloss patina. One face is heavily worked with invasive irregular re-touch. The ventral face retains some of its original surface and is more crudely worked with occasional invasive flakes.
