A lithic scraper, probably Late Neolithic to Early Bronze age c. BC 3300 - 2000. The bulbar end exhibits a clear bulb of percussion with light radiating ripple marks extending partway down the partly incurvate ventral surface. The dorsal surface has a small section of the cortex in situ and the surface is heavily faceted with random flaking. The edge has bifacial fine and coarse retouch and probable further damage/fritting from its time in the ground. The material is a mottled grey/cream flint with small white inclusions with further iron oxide elements. The small black surface markin…

A small Neolithic leaf shaped arrowhead c. 4000 -2350 BC. The lithic has invasive flaking scars over both dorsal and ventral surface with low-angled, bifacial retouch along the edges. The arrowhead has a rounded proximal end and a slightly 'blunted' point to the distal end. The material is of a pale cream flint with numerous tiny, lighter inclusions.

A large flint scraper, probably from the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze age c. 3300 - 2000 BC. The lithic has a 'D' shaped, cross section and is a broadly, a rounded triangle in plan. The ventral surface has a distinct bulb of percussion beneath the striking platform, to the proximal end. The dorsal surface has significant negative scaring and subsequent arrises. One worked edge has a semi denticulate retouch with the opposite edge being smoother in form. There is an element of bifacial retouch to one quarter. The flint has a deep grey/brown colour with several lighter inclusions over…

A lithic, secondary sub-triangular flake with retouch to both long edges. The dorsal surface has numerous negative scars/arrises running roughly from the proximal to distal end. The ventral surface is smooth but for some fracture scars at the distal point that looks to have been broken away in antiquity. This implement may be considered as a scraper but, whilst the proximal end does have some evidence of basal thinning, it does not in itself look sufficient to have made hafting an easy task. Alternatively it may have been intended to be a trnasverse arrowhead. Dating is difficult; Neo…

A patinated and iron stained flint blade, probably dating to the later stages of the Upper Palaeolithic (c. 40,000 BC - 8,300 BC). The blade has a plain platform from where it was struck from the core, and a diffuse bulb. The blade is slightly curved and retains some cortex on the distal end of the dorsal surface. Retouching is evident along both left and right dorsal edges, however there is also modern machine damage evident to both side and the central ridge is crushed. There is also some crushing to the right hand side of the tip. The Late or Final Upper Palaeolithic period dated f…

A flint end scraper probably dating from the earlier part of the Neolithic period (c.3500-2500 BC). The scraper is quite large and has been made on a primary flake of grey-blue flint, with the dorsal surface retaining over 95% outer cortex; the cortex has been flaked away to create the scraper edge. There appears to be no or very limited retouch on the ventral side. The lack of preparation of the flake suggests the tool was made quickly for a specific purpose and may have been disposed of soon after use.

A flint scraper made on a natural flake, dating to the later prehistoric period, probably the Bronze Age or later. The scraper has been made on an oval flake of grey-white flint with a brown, iron-stained outer cortex. A spool has popped of from the dorsal surface. These are naturally occuring breaks and can occur because of fragilities in the flint; extreme temperature changes can cause spooling (for example if water infiltrates the rock then swells due to freezing) as can pressure. Minimal retouching around one half of the dorsal lateral suggests this tool was used as a scraper. Int…
