A Post Medieval rim fragment of a ceramic glazed ware, a charger or platter probably of Metropolitan slipped ware dating c. 1630 -1700. The fragment comprises a rim sherd, trapezoidal in plan with a beaded rim projecting on both external and internal sides. The sandy fabric is oxidised orange with a slightly paler yellow core and abundant well sorted rounded quartz inclusions. The upper surface is decorated with trailed yellow slip decoration composed of a tendril with circular lobe, the entire upper surface and inside face of the rim are covered in a clear glaze. …

The breaks around the walls are worn with an unworn break on the handle which has an oval cross-section. A complete, Roman, wheel turned ceramic bowl, a waster re-used as a crucible dating c. AD 43-250.  The vessel is complete but has warped in the firing, and was probably a waster. It is in the form of a small cup with a beaded rim (7.13mm high and 6.94mm wide). The walls are vertical and then angle inwards towards the footring at the base. The foot ring is 46.3mm in diameter, the outer rim measuring 7.61mm wide and 6.8mm high. The inner area is only slightly recessed with circular rilling surviving on the surface. An incomplete roman ceramic sandy grey coarseware vessel, probably a small jar dating c. AD43-410.  Only the base survives comprising a circular foot ring which damage around the rim and a concave centre. Above the foot ring the vestigial remains of the walls survive with worn breaks with a slightly raised convex circular area in the base of the interior of the vessel. There is a raised band under the rim on the external wall. The sandy fabric is hard with abundant well sorted quartz and red inclusions and occasional larger rounded quartz inclusions. A body sherd from a Roman Samian ware vessel dating c. AD 43-200. The external surface of the body sherd is carinated. It has a soft, fine pale red-orange fabric with sparse angular red inclusions. A glossy dark orange slip has been applied to the internal and external surfaces. The breaks are slightly worn. Length: 31.83 mm, width: 23.50 mm, thickness: 6.24mm, weight: 3.90g The sparce iron inclusions suggest this is Central Gaulish ware and the carination and its angle suggests it was part of a dish or bowl.
