A silver Post-Medieval sixpence of Charles II (AD 1660-1685) dated to the period AD 1674-1684. Crowned cruciform shields reverse. Mint of London. The coin is very worn and displays two sub-parallel straightned folds suggesting it may have been repurposed as a love token. DUR-735B12 notes that: "Love tokens' were made using coins dating from the time of Elizabeth I (AD 1558-1603) to the reign of Anne (AD 1702-1714) with some Georgian examples and some as late as the Victorian period. They were particularly common in the reign of William III (AD 1694-1702). They are …

An extremely worn silver Post-Medieval coin, probably intentionally worn blank and therefore illegible, but possibly a sixpence of William III (AD 1694-1702). The coin has been countermarked for use as a 'slap' token (or possibly a love token): one face is stamped or punched with the letter Q followed by two comma-like markings. This stamping has distorted the coin, which dips in this area, and bulges in the corresponding area on the opposite face. Slap tokens were created by tradesmen and shopkeepers from extremely worn shillings and sixpences often f…
