An incomplete, cast copper alloy strap fitting, probably a strap junction and probably of post-medieval date. The fitting is made up of a trefoil shape though two of the three lobes are broken, the object is flat. Each lobe of the trefoil is pierced by a circular hole through which straps would be secured. The metal is a mid blackish-brown colour and survives in good condition.

Pressed sheet copper alloy oval strap union and square plate, perhaps used as a book binding. The square cover plate has four rivets, two of which attach it to the folded trefoil fixing plate beneath, with a folded loop to hold the buckle. The other two rivets hold a narrow rectangular plate on the back of the cover plate. There are the remains of the leather strap, held by the rivets, between the front and both back plates. This suggests to the recorder that the object cannot be very old as organics do not survive well in the local acidic soil, unless preserved in anaerobic condition…

Sheet copper alloy snake’s head strap end with punched detail on upper sheet and then soldered onto lower sheet which is plain, making it hollow within to take a leather strap. Likely to have been imported in relatively modern times from the East where the snake motif is more prevalent. The only comparable example that the recorder can find is as a terminal to an armlet or arm band made from sheet brass from Chinese Turkestan illustrated in Gerlach (1971) on page 76, Plate 38 No.19. 19th-20th century

Copper alloy strap fitting, moulded around a cylinder to produce a semi-circular section for the upper 20 mm, and beaten into a flat section at the lower end for the remaining 18 mm. The strap fitting was then punched with a ring-and-dot pattern, in three sets of three, which were divided by two sets of incised chevrons, pointing towards the flattened end of the strap fitting. There is one rivet hole at the end of the flattened section of the fitting and one at the other end, although only half of the hole remains in the centre of a collar made up of two ribs in relief; both ends are i…

This object 20mm long, 10mm wide at the centre and 5mm thick overall, is a small gilt bronze fitting from a belt. Made of pressed sheet metal, it is domed in the centre, and the crest of the dome is cut away, making a hole. At either side are two smaller domed extensions each containing a very small iron pin for fastening the object to its receiving surface. As the object has been pressed out, the back is hollow. Solid cast examples similar to this shape are illustrated by Egan and Pritchard, Fig. 134.
