Stamped circular lead seal. Late Medieval.
seperated into four filed by solid straight lines. a riased pellet in the centre of the cross and an annulet in each field. A small scar at the top edge suggests that this is where the tag to connect it to the other half has broken away.
Lead seals were commonly used in the textile industry to regulate quality and also to seal cloth bags of goods. This system was in use from the late 14th to the early 19th centuries. This example is one half of such a seal. This example is liekly to date to the mid-17th century.
