Tinned sheet copper alloy bar mount with central rosette, surrounded by a beaded circle, and bilobate ends in the form of two domed bosses. Similar mounts have been found attached to short leather straps which were probably used to pass over the instep of the foot to attach spurs to boots (Egan & Pritchard, 2002, p.215). Egan & Pritchard (2002) illustrate a similar example on page 218, Fig.136, No.1183, which is dated to c.1350-1400. Ottaway & Rogers (2002) illustrate similar examples from Medieval York on page 2906, Fig.1479, Nos.13373 & 14399, which …

Copper alloy Thimble. Small open-ended thimble, with a narrow foot ring and regular stamped indentations limited by an upper border line. A consistent thickness of the thimble wall may suggest machine manufacture. Though open thimbles are less common, a foot ring argues a later 19th-century date. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1900. Copper alloy Thimble. Open-ended thimble, with a narrow foot ring and regular stamped indentations limited by a single upper border line. Circumferential lines appear on the smooth inner surface, suggesting the thimble was turned on a lathe. A very consistent thickness also suggests machine manufacture. Though open thimbles are less common, a foot ring argues a later 19th-century date. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1900. Copper alloy Possible harness boss fragment. Pressed metal fitting, originally circular with a thicker border and thinner in the middle, but now torn. The finder notes five circular impressions resembling ring-and-dot (of diameter 2.8mm) on the display face of the object. However, one of these is surrounded by a wider circular impression (of diameter 22.8mm) on the display face; putative ring-and-dot are also visible on the reverse along with larger circular impressions surrounding them, so this reporter is inclined to regard their resemblance to Early Medieval decoration as fortuit…
