Medieval mount; stamped sheet copper alloy mount of probable 14th or early 15th century date. The mount is in the shape of a crowned, bearded head. It has a crown with three domes, wavy hair to either side of the face and defined eyebrows, nose, almond-shaped eyes, cheekbones and lips. In style it is reminiscent of the portraits on contemporary coins. The mount has a single, small, circular rivet in the centre on the back. Modern seal; impressed lead alloy bag seal, or similar, with a coin of George III used as seal matrix. The seal is a large, horizontal oval of lead with a short sprue extending down from the bottom of the oval. The object is broken off at the bottom of the sprue. The front face of the seal bears the reversed impression of a coin, judging from the size (approx. 28.5mm diameter) and inscription this seems to be a halfpenny of George III, dated 1806. Medieval seal; impressed lead papal bulla of Pope Boniface IX, dating to 1389-1404. The seal has the usual portraits of Saint Paul and Saint Peter on the front face, identified by the letters ‘SP[A]’ and ‘[S]PE’ above the heads. The faces are shown facing three quarters forwards and towards the middle. They are within beaded ovals and there is a beaded line around the edge of the bulla. The back face of the bulla has the name of the pope ‘BONI / FATIUS / PP VIIII’. The bulla is somewhat worn, especially on the front face. The whole has a thick, even, cream-white patina. …

Medieval sheet copper alloy mount / applique. Stamped out domed sexfoil sheet. There is no rivet hole, but there is a circle of iron staining (c. 4.5mm diameter) at the centre of the reverse indicating this was fixed to an iron object. Probably medieval c.1250-1450. Diameter 13.7mm, thickness of sheet metal c.0.3mm, overall thickness 2.9mm, weight 0.70g.

There are two rows of dots running across the ribs of the shell – at least three of these dots (two in the centre, and one to the left on the top row) are pierced to allow the badge to be sewn onto cloth. A fourth on the right side may also be pierced. Weight 13.74g.
