A copper alloy token, issued by George Lamplugh of Beverley. A lot of these tokens were issued by private merchants across the country in the 1660s, presumably reflecting a shortage of official small change. Lamplugh may have run an inn given the inscription 'at the', but the name of the inn is not included in the reverse inscription as would be expected.

A copper alloy mid 17th century halfpenny token, issued by Richard Stockdale of Hull in 1665. His profession is not clear from the token but Thompson and Dickinson suggest he was a mariner. A lot of these tokens were issued by private merchants across the country in the mid 17th century, particularly in the late 1660s, presumably reflecting a shortage of official small change. Charles II began minting an official copper coinage in 1672 to address this.
