A complete, copper alloy sestertius of Crispina, dating to the period c. AD 178-88 (Reece Period 9). Reverse type: LAETITIA S C, Laetitia standing left, holding wreath and rudder on globe. Mint of Rome. RIC III Commodus / p. 442, no. 669. Crispina’s coinage was traditionally dated to c. AD 178-182, but more recent research suggests that she was probably not exiled to Capri until c. AD 188. Therefore, we date her coins to c. AD 178-188; although some coins probably date to AD 178-80, we cannot be sure which they are so all Crispina’s coins are assigned to Reece Period 9 (AD 180-1…
