Ceramic building material: tile or tegula. Oxidised sandy fabric, finely sanded on one side and smoothed on the other, from a flat tile with a single broad overhanging edge or rib. The tile was moulded with its ridged surface downwards, collecting sand from the surface on which it was shaped. Much of the rib is lost to subsequent abrasion.
